DESCRIPTION

Lagos is a small historic town located in center of south coast, incredibly well preserved within its ancient walls.

A charming city bordered by shady squares and steep alleys, Lagos is known for its beaches, small coves and marina, ideally located 45 minutes from Faro airport and 20 minutes from wild and authentic west coast.

From Sagres to west, a former fishing village, via Portimao, Albufeira or Faro, coastal walk is rich in beautiful encounters. White and ocher villages clinging to the hills, gastronomy and local wines will only seduce you.

KITE SPOT RIA DO ALVOR

Ria do Alvor kitesurfing spot, located between Lagos and Alvor, along Mei Praia beach, is a large, flat and shallow lagoon that offers very good conditions for beginners to learn and practice kitesurfing safely and for kiters wanting to improve their tricks.

This is due to the fact that sandbanks, distributed around lagoon, make kite area a safe and totally protected place in shallow and temperate waters.

This spot allows you to navigate in peace because the activity and number of kiter in area are regulated on lagoon.

Tides and Wind

Spot is large enough to also accommodate experienced kitesurfers who will be able to progress in slalom, speed or jumps according to their development objectives. It is ideal for freeriding.

Depending on the tides, water level varies from knee to waist with pleasant temperatures making it easier to learn and practice kitesurfing.

South of Portugal is subject to the Nortada, an offshore wind, with a constant north, between 13 and 27 knots.

Wind is channeled between Lagos and the Serra de Monchique and reaches the Ria do Alvor kite spot with an average of 20 knots, making it one of the best spots in Portugal.

The Nortada is lighter in the morning and gradually rises from the start of the afternoon. There is no Gulf Stream here so a wetsuit is essential all year round.

Meia Praia spot is sheltered from waves but on the other beaches. There are waves all year round in Portugal. In the fall and winter, the swell is large and very consistent on the west coast.

Season and Level recommendations

June and July are the windiest months in the Algarve and from September the wind is still strong but less constant.

Recommended level: this spot is open to all levels, from beginners to advanced.

Recommended period: May until the end of October, ideal in July and August.
